Dear CWA Friends and Families:
As you now know, Matt Culberson will step down as head of school at Charles Wright Academy at the conclusion of the 2019-20 school year. The board of trustees has valued the opportunity to partner with Matt, focused on our efforts to be the premier 21st century learning community for students in preschool to grade 12 in the South Sound. We are grateful for his leadership during the last three years of intense transition.
Matt’s genuine passion for students is at the center of every decision he makes. His vision has inspired a culture of learning and growth — for CWA students and for its employees. He laid a foundation for a culture of inclusion and institutional commitment to care. We thank Matt for his commitment to our school and we look forward to working with him next year as we search for a successor.
While the 2020-21 school year may seem a while away, we are excited about our school’s future and the board has already initiated a national search for a new head of school. Mark Hood, secretary of the Board of Trustees, will chair a search committee comprised of trustees, at-large CWA community members, faculty and staff.
The board has engaged Educators’ Collaborative, a respected national leader amongst educational search firms, to facilitate our search. Joan Beauregard, an executive at the firm, will be on campus on May 29 and May 30 to meet with members of our community in order to develop a deeper understanding of our school and our needs for the next head.
Because not everyone will be able to participate in the on-campus interviews, we will be sending a link to an anonymous online survey on Thursday, May 23 so that the entire CWA community may provide input in our search process. The survey is open to all and your input is essential to our success.
The health of Charles Wright Academy is robust and the board is confident that we will attract outstanding candidates. My fellow trustees and I are keenly aware that selecting the best new head of school for CWA is our most important responsibility, and you can expect us to communicate regularly throughout the search process.
Chair, CWA Board of Trustees
