Francesca Gallozzi Appointed to Lower School Assistant Director/Early Childhood Education Director

Tacoma, Wash. — Charles Wright Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Francesca Gallozzi to Lower School Assistant Director/Early Childhood Director beginning July 2019.

A graduate of Tufts University, Ms. Gallozzi started her teaching career in New York state. She holds a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia University Teachers College.

Francesca is an incredibly thoughtful educator with a dedicated passion for early childhood education. She brings an exceptional depth and breadth of experience to this position as well as a palpable excitement for building our preschool program and adding strength to our early childhood program. Our parents will appreciate her understanding of child development and skill creating child-centered programing,” Lower School Director Nick Zosel Johnson said.

Francesca spent ten years in her early career teaching early childhood in both independent and public schools. She served as the founding director at the Center for Children and Families, California State University, San Marcos. In this role she built a program from the ground up identifying a philosophy, securing licensing, and hiring and inspiring 35 staff members across ten classrooms.

Currently, Ms. Gallozzi serves as a professor at San Diego State University in the Department of Child and Family Development. After many years teaching teachers, Ms. Gallozzi is eager to return to working closely with students and families.

“Charles Wright Academy is very fortunate to have Francesca as its new Lower School Assistant Director/Early Childhood Director. Francesca is extremely knowledgeable about both the art and science of teaching young children and has a great deal of experience administering high-quality early care and education programs. She is committed to developing and implementing programs that are fun, challenging, and based on what science and theory tell us about how young children learn and develop. Importantly, she genuinely cares about the children, families, and staff she works with and is committed to creating environments that are safe, nurturing, inclusive, and relationship-based,” Dr. Sarah Garrity, a colleague at San Diego State University said.

When asked her thoughts regarding her upcoming role at Charles Wright, Ms. Gallozzi answered, “I am delighted to join the Charles Wright family. From the very first moments of my initial visit it was clear that this is a community where children are caring and cared for. It was evident when children bounded through the front door, excited to greet Mr. ZJ; when they celebrated birthdays and accomplishments with genuine enthusiasm in Town Meeting; when JK’s helped each other tear tape to construct crowns; and when K’s engaged in lively, respectful lunchtime conversations. I am so excited to have the opportunity to welcome the three-year-old class and to support the lower school faculty in their work with such engaged and confident learners.”

Ms. Gallozzi was named the most influential undergraduate professor at San Diego State University in 2017. She is an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking educator with a strong track record as administrator and teacher in early childhood, elementary, and university programs.

We at CWA are incredibly excited to welcome Ms. Gallozzi into this new role for the start of the next school year.
