Arlington, Wash. – The Charles Wright Academy Knowledge Bowl A team, comprising five seniors, won the 3A state championship at the tournament held at Arlington High School on Saturday, March 14.
The A team—including Meg Blyler ’15, Emily Ge ’15, Rory Reshovsky ’15, Conor Sandoval ’15, and Taylor Walsh ’15—defeated Capital High School and Columbia River High School 16 to 10 to 5. What made the day even more rewarding was that the B team just missed advancing to the finals; they still placed eighth in the state. That team was composed of Aidan Clements ’15, Piper Coyner ’18, Katya Kelly ’15, Hayley Tillett ’15, Kesheva Katti ’18, and Alex Zhu ’15.
“The quality of instruction is on display when such a tiny school can consistently outpoint teams drawn from such a larger population base,” said Knowledge Bowl coach John Lemma. “Most 3A schools felt fortunate to qualify a single team for state, much less have two teams make the state finals.”
Congratulations to Mr. Lemma, fellow coach David Kangas, and all of the students who participate in Knowledge Bowl. Go Tarriers!
