Mandy Marcellis says that she has always been passionate about teaching. That passion started at a young age, when she would read aloud to her fellow classmates. Being a natural leader, she found herself gravitating toward working with children. “All of the teachers that I had growing up shaped me in various ways, both as inspiration and constructively,” she says. “I learned something from each of them, and it made teaching and working with children a natural choice for my future. I love people and am a naturally social person who loves to create relationships with others. This position fuses both the office work that I have done for so long with my passion for working with kids.” Mandy loves being the face kids and parents see first thing in the morning. “I love being able to help people—whether that be students, teachers, other staff, or parents.”
Mandy likens Charles Wright Academy to a “magical world” that she feels blessed to be a part of. “The understanding and care that they have for everyone in the CWA family is astounding,” she says. Mandy enjoys being surrounded by passionate and talented coworkers and says that she gets daily inspiration from those she interacts with. “This is not something that you find everywhere, by far!”
When not working, Mandy loves spending time with her husband and two “adorable” puppies. She and her husband volunteer at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle. “I’m learning more about boats and sailing as I go along!” She also loves to write. “Some of my favorite memories from school always involved writing—creative writing, young authors’ competitions, and free-writing,” she says. “I have many stories that I have written through the years and still love to read them!” Mandy also enjoys improv and, having previously been in two different improv comedy groups, she’s hoping to someday get back into it.
