Kevin Hong teaches second grade. “I was drawn to CWA by the opportunities to be flexible with the curriculum and to make learning experiences meaningful for the students,” says Hong. “My goal is to foster a lifelong love of learning by making it interesting and exciting.”
Before becoming a teacher, Hong spent eight years working as a daily newspaper photojournalist and has won several regional awards from the Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists, and National Press Photographers Association. While working as a professional journalist he taught high school journalism part-time, and advised a high school newspaper.
Hong has worked as a counselor and director of a Camp Fire USA summer camp for kids, grades one through 12. “I think working at a camp has made me a better teacher,” he says. “It has given me insight into the way children think and view the world when they aren’t in the classroom.”
Hong also enjoys hiking, skiing, camping, trips to the beach, fine food, art galleries, history museums, and mentoring at-risk teens. He has been bowling since the age of 7 and has bowled 20 perfect 300 games.
