Charles Wright Athletics (8/31 – 9/7)

The Charles Wright Tarriers competed in the Emerald Ridge Jamboree. CWA was the lone 1A school competing in this event. The Tarriers finished the day with a 6-0 record knocking off quality 3A and 4A programs in the jamboree. The Tarriers look to be a team that will be a force in the 1A this season.

The Tarriers traveled to Todd Beamer to take on the 4A school from Federal Way. CWA was in control the entire match as they beat Todd Beamer 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-13). Abbie J. ’19 led the Tarriers with 19 kills and Nicole K. ’20 contributed 10 kills.

Girls Soccer
CWA girls soccer team traveled up to compete against a Cedar Park Christian team which is a very talented team. The Tarriers kept it close in the first half, but Cedar Park pulled away in the second half to beat CWA 4-0.

The Tarriers took on Bear Creek in their 2nd match of the year. The young Tarriers out-played their opponents but fell to them 1-2. Lexi L. ’20 scored the Tarriers first goal of the season.

The Tarriers opened the season at Toledo with a 37-7 loss. The Tarriers were getting knocked around in the first half of the game but came out the second half and competed physically with Toledo. Dane J. ’20 connected with Jack O. ’22 on a 10-yard touchdown for the Tarriers first score of the season.

CWA defeated Seton Catholic 7-6 at Charlie’s Picnic. Dane J. ’20 connected with Justin L. ’21 on a 25-yard touchdown with Justin adding the P.A.T. Seton Catholic scored a touchdown but the P.A.T. hit the upright that kept the CWA Tarriers ahead by 1 point. With 4:00 minutes left in the game Seton Catholic’s attempted field goal was blocked by Asher S.A. ’19. The Tarriers picked up a couple first downs before they were able to get into their victory formation to end the game.

Boys Tennis
The Tarriers traveled over to Vashon for the first match of the season. CWA defeated the Vashon Pirates 4-1 to start off the season with a big win on Vashon’s home courts. Raghav A. ’19 was victorious in his singles match and Cole H. ’19/Micah W. ’19, Nick L. ’20/Henry C. ’20 and Max J. ’20/David D. ’20 won their doubles matches.

Cross Country
CWA raced against some tough teams and a lot of bigger 3A and 4A schools.  Out of 21 athletes that raced, 14 set PR’s (Personal Records)! The top CWA finishers of the day were Adam B. ’20 (11:03 for 2 miles) on the boys side, and Brenna S. ’19 (13:18) on the girls side.

The biggest improvements went to Mason M. ’20 (68-second improvement from his freshman year) and Hannah S. ’19, who improved 36 seconds from last year.
