Girls Basketball

Basketball is back in season! The Tarrier girls began their season on the home court in stunning fashion. Playing against the Summit Olympus Phoenixs the Tarriers put a win in the record books at 64-8 led by senior Grace Hanly (17 pts) and junior RubyJoy Pikes (20 pts). These ladies worked hard to maintain their level of intensity throughout the match. The additional three starters, Julia Hanly, Lexi Leith and Erica Julian, each added 8 points to the final score. The bench saw plenty of playing time throughout the game. Senior Cindy Li scored 2 points and Hadassa Pritchett added in a free throw. We are proud to see such a strong start for this great group of Girls!

On Friday, December 1st, the Tarriers traveled north to take on the UPrep Pumas. The girls started the game off strong finishing the first quarter up 12-4. Despite a slow second quarter, the girls picked their game back up to stay ahead of the Pumas and pull of the 27-16 win. Once again, Grace Hanly led the team putting 10 points on the board and followed closely behind by her sister, junior Julia Hanly with 9 points. Erica Julian added in 4 points in ankle-breaking fashion, and Lexi Leith and Bert Brown each put in two points for the Tarrier win.

With just an evening to rest the basketball teams made their way up to Highline High School on Saturday, December 2nd. Tonight both the Varsity and JV teams would get a chance to play. Playing with a smaller bench meant that the girls would need to work hard to maintain consistent energy throughout the game. The first quarter continued to show the Tarrier ladies at their best. The Highline Pirates were held scoreless for the first 5 minutes of the game as the Tarriers put up an 11 point lead to start. Despite some early foul trouble, the varsity girls kept their heads in the game and maintained the lead to improve to 3-0 on the season. To no surprise, Grace Hanly led all scorers with 17 points, and after an off-night Friday, RubyJoy Pikes was back in with 7 points. All of the girls helped to get points in the books for the team (Lexi Leith 6, Julia Hanly 5, Bert Brown 2, Erica Julian 2, and Aliyah Recasner 1).
Saturday was the first game for our JV girls as well. Playing with a limited bench, the girls came out strong scoring 9 points in the first quarter. The defense was strong for this team as they held the Pirates JV to just 2 points. They finished out the contest winning 14-2. Senior Cindy Li and freshman Alyssa Recasner led with 5 points a piece, and sophomore Taiya Melsness added in an additional 4.
