Patrick PhilleyPATRICK PHILLEY ,
CLASS OF 2008

His favorite class is any class that has to do with math. He’s taking AP calculus and chemistry. He enjoys physics. But before you call Patrick a nerd, keep in mind that he plays football, basketball and baseball — so you might want to say it with a smile.

Patrick came to CWA in the third grade, and early on he wasn’t sure if he liked it.

“I wish I knew back when I started how good CWA is,” he says now. “I used to always want to go to other schools but now I know it doesn't get better than here. I've learned how to communicate with people — adults and kids — and I've learned how to approach work in an effective way. I've learned to always challenge myself.”

Which Patrick does with athletics and academics that include AP history, Spanish and English. Plus community service on the South Puget Sound “Make the Dash Count” Youth Advisory Board, which grants money to children at risk.

“I would recommend Charles Wright to anyone,” he says. “It's a great school academically and a fun place to be socially. Our sports are getting more competitive — but even if you aren't too serious about sports you’ll definitely fit in too. You should be prepared for a challenging workload, but not one that is so difficult you don’t have time to do other things. I don't really know anything to be nervous about here — it takes less than no time to get used to the school and the people around you. What you’ll love right away are the teachers. All of my teachers are fun to be around and you can tell they really want you to succeed. The only thing that takes time to get used to is the schedule, which is pretty complex — but after a couple of weeks you get the hang of it!”

Patrick doesn’t know yet what career path he’ll follow, but he does know he’ll never forget CWA: “I will always remember the fun experiences I've had at Charles Wright all throughout my years here,  and all the relationships I made along the way.”
