LIZ JEWSON ,
CLASS OF 2007
Liz is a long-distance runner, both literally — she competes on the cross-country team — and academically, because she enjoys the extended, long-term projects CWA students undertake in history and English classes.
“In my junior English project,” she says, “I really enjoyed researching my chosen author and learning about organization, how to use library resources and just developing my writing skills.” She’s not so fond of long lectures — or standardized tests. But she knows it’s all part of the CWA mix.
And so are great teachers: “I know all my teachers really well,” Liz explains, “and I feel completely comfortable talking to them whenever I need help. Their offices are always open. And I love the small classes at CWA.”
When asked to give some CWA advice (Liz has been here since second grade) her first note is for the parents of students.
“Be active,” she says, “in helping your son or daughter, and get a feel for the styles of each teacher. That way you can help your child if they struggle in a certain class.”
For prospective students, her advice is to check out CWA, and remember that “CWA is a diverse, friendly community and people can fit in here easily and quickly. You should be prepared for lots of work and high expectations, but you will right away love the atmosphere and the comfortable feeling.
“I have learned so much about myself during my years at CWA. I think I have become a better person through community service involvement, become stronger mentally through my sports experiences, and become more caring because the people around me are so important to me. I’m more balanced — at CWA there is time for both work and play and I have learned how to manage both.”
As for her future?
“I think college will be much easier after CWA, and that I have developed a good base and have learned important skills and morals.”
