The Art Department strives to teach the principles of art using different media and a variety of interesting and challengin lesson plans. The kinds of problems students tackle in the arts are abstract. SOlving them builds capabilities that transfer to other subjects. Not only does our art program develop students' inherent talents it also gives them a background for a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

All students must complete one Visual Arts credit to meet graduation requirements. Students may take any of the studio offerings but must get permission from the instructor for any advanced class. It is important that all students be exposed to all aspects of the liberal arts education offered at Charles Wright. If a student earns at least one Visual Arts credit during each year they are in the CWA Upper School, they may petition to have the Performing Arts requirement waived. It is strongly recommended that students complete their visual arts requirements by the end of their Sophomore year.

VaseAdvanced Arts Classes
In all advanced art classes the emphasis is on the creation of a strong portfolio of work that can be shown for admission to art school, regular college or a future employer. Standards for these classes and expectations for the work to be done are high. Students will be responsible for presenting their finished work in a show at the end of the school year.
