US English
Tony Chursky teaches English in the Upper School.  One of his favorite class projects is for students to rewrite scenes from Shakespeare by using more contemporary language and by setting those scenes in different time periods while preserving the figurative language and the essential meaning of the original text.

Chursky graduated from Simon Fraser University with a degree in English.  He achieved “Super Teacher” status with certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  He joined the faculty of Charles Wright in 1999 and in 2006 left to teach in the United Arab Emirates in the capital city of Abu Dhabi for two years.  He returned to the campus in 2008.

Chursky is a former professional soccer player.  He played against some of the greatest players who have ever played the game, including Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, George Best, Johan Cryff, Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Gerd Mueller, Gordon Banks and Carlos Alberto.  He is a member of the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame and was the first soccer player inducted into the Simon Fraser University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Given those credentials, it’s not surprising that Chursky serves as the Director of Soccer at Charles Wright.  He coaches both the Middle and Upper School boys’ teams.  His favorite moment at Charles Wright was when he coached the Tarriers to a state soccer championship in 2002.

Chursky also enjoys cycling and completed the Seattle to Portland bike race in 11 hours and 10 minutes.  He has been a member of the music worship team at Marine View Presbyterian Church and serves as a Christian Children’s Fund Sponsor.  He has three Ragdoll cats named Willow, Winston and Webster--better known as the www gang.
