Robert Scotlan
8th Grade English
Rob Scotlan teaches eighth grade English. “I especially enjoy discussing in class the books we read,” says Scotlan. “It gives all of us an opportunity to find the little pieces of humor, tragedy and drama that often go overlooked while reading a novel.”
Scotlan completed both his bachelors and masters degrees at the University of Puget Sound. After graduate school, he flew to England and spent four months working as a server in an eatery in Reigate, Surrey. He spent several months touring Scotland, France, Spain and Italy. He has also visited Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Austria and Greece. In 2009, he plans to scale Mount Everest.
Scotlan joined the faculty of Charles Wright in 2006. In addition to teaching, he has coached basketball and volleyball and leads eighth graders on the annual four-day beach hike. Scotlan is a member of a USA Volleyball team and competes in both regional and national tournaments. He also volunteers in the community as a mentor, plays the guitar and is an avid reader.
