Julia Maeda teaches Japanese in the Middle and Upper Schools.  One of her favorite class projects is challenging students to produce their own creative TV commercials in Japanese.  “I expect all my students will become fluent in their new language,” says Maeda.  “Everyone is capable of learning languages and my objective is to help my students have fun while doing so.  I hope my students will increase not only their language skills but also their self esteem.”

Maeda joined the faculty of Charles Wright in 2008.  “I am very impressed with how eager students are to learn at Charles Wright,” she says.  “I’m glad that so many students know that learning is fun!”

She graduated from Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan and earned her master’s degree in teaching at Seattle Pacific University.  Maeda also coaches volleyball and leads outdoor education trips at Charles Wright.

Maeda loves to play the piano, swim and snowboard.  “I also like traveling and meeting new people,” she says.  “I love to learn about different cultures by spending time with people from all over the world.”  Maeda has two brothers and she likes to point out that she’s the taller than both of them.
