Gabriel Newton teaches science and technology in the Lower School.  As one of the school’s learning specialists, he helps teachers integrate science into their curriculum and teaches science labs to students from the Beginning School through fifth grade.  He joined the faculty of Charles Wright in 2008.

Newton particularly enjoys getting kids outside.  “By giving our children access to the environment in which we live, we broaden their perspective and their understanding of how important it is to take care of the natural world,” he says.  “The value that CWA places on this and other types of scientific discovery throughout a student’s education is unique and commendable.”

“My passion for the outdoors led me pursue and obtain a degree in wildlife biology from Washington State University,” explains Newton.  “Since then I’ve been involved in research with spotted owls, night herons, bluebirds, spotted turtles, and grizzly bears.  I worked as the Bird and Reptile Keeper at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston and coordinated environmental education programs for Metro Parks Tacoma and the Tahoma Audubon Society.”

Newton is a self-proclaimed bird nerd.  He is more than half way through a journey to climb the eight tallest peaks in the Northwest.  He enjoys kayaking, watching independent and foreign films, and spending time with his family.  He has traveled extensively throughout Eastern Europe and lived in Croatia.
