Deana Wiatr teaches French in the Middle and Upper Schools.  “Languages really present another vision of life,” says Wiatr.  “You can’t truly see that until you can speak another language well enough to understand the complexities of the mentality of other cultures.”

Wiatr joined the faculty of Charles Wright in 1997.  After seven years teaching she moved to Europe to teach English as a second language at a university in France.  She returned to CWA in 2008.  In addition to teaching she coaches soccer and track and field, and leads eighth grade Beach Hike groups.  During her tenure at Charles Wright she has also coached basketball and cross country and led five trips to France with CWA students.

While living in Europe, Wiatr kept in touch with many former students including one who came to stay with her and her husband in France.  “There is really a special bond between CWA students and teachers that can last, with some students, a lifetime,” says Wiatr.  “It’s really special to be able to see my students again and share our experiences with one another.”

Wiatr graduated from Eastern Washington University with degrees in French and history.  She has done master’s work in teaching foreign languages at Laval University in Canada and served as a Rotary Ambassador while living in Quebec.  She has also worked as a translator.  She enjoys yoga and skiing.
