Sixteen Tarriers Advance to State National History Day Competition

Auburn, Wash. – Sixteen Charles Wright Academy Upper Schoolers are moving on to the Washington state National History Day competition in May after placing in the top three in their respective categories at the South Puget Sound regional competition at Green River Community College on Thursday, March 26. It is the largest group of Tarriers to advance to state since CWA started participating in the program.

Twenty-four students competed in seven categories at the regional level—individual documentary, paper, individual exhibit, individual website, group performance, individual performance, and group website. A Tarrier placed first in five out of those seven categories:

Sean O’Farrell ’17 for his project “Bruce Crandell—The Leader of Modern Helicopter Aviation” (individual documentary)

Miranda Ferguson ’16 for her project “Creation of an Empire: The Leadership and Legacy of Queen Anne I” (paper)

Kaylee Kim ’16 for her project “Nico Roozen: The Founder of Fair Trade” (individual exhibit)

Angel Ortiz ’18 for his project “Judge Julius W. Waring” (individual website)

Drew Snyder ’18, Jackie Yeh ’16, Morgan Potter ’16, and Wyatt Swift ’17 for their project “Raphael Lemkin” (group performance—pictured above)
