Pre-K & Kindergarten Lower School
Here Charles Wright's youngest students discover the joys of learning and of belonging to a community.
Charles Wright's full-day Jr. Kindergarten (pre-K) and Kindergarten programs provide the broadest and deepest early learning experiences you will find in the South Sound. Each of our three classroom teachers is assisted by a para-educator. Students are also taught by nine different specialized teachers, all experts in their respective fields. They take frequent field trips and participate in all-school activities with other Lower School students.
For even our youngest students, we believe world languages, science labs, athletics, and arts are an absolute must. With a class size of 16 and a student/teacher ratio of 8:1, every child gets more time and attention and more individualized challenges and support. More trust and respect are developed between students and teachers in this environment. Parent involvement in the learning process is encouraged, both at home and at school. The counselor and learning specialist often work with classes and one-on-one with students.
Jr. Kindergartners and Kindergartners are members of the Lower School, a diverse learning community with 200 girls and boys from across Pierce, South King, Thurston, and Kitsap Counties. Nearly four in ten Lower Schoolers are students of color.
Most successful Jr. Kindergarten applicants turn four years of age by June 30 and most successful Kindergarten applicants turn five by that same date.
The fall production of Rainbow Crow is an annual tradition for CWA's pre-K students.
