School Life

Lower School at Charles Wright begins with our full-day pre-K and Kindergarten programs, although students may enroll at any grade level if space allows. We offer the broadest, deepest, most challenging, most supportive, least pretentious, and most joyous academic environment you will find in the greater South Sound.
Many of our classroom teachers are assisted by a para-educator. Students are also taught by nine different specialized teachers, all experts in their respective fields. The counselor and learning specialist often work with classes and one-on-one with students. Students take frequent field trips and participate in all-school activities.
For even our youngest students, we believe world languages, science labs, athletics, and arts are an absolute must. With an average class size of 15 and a student/teacher ratio of 10:1, every child gets more time and attention and more individualized challenges and support. More trust and respect are developed between students and teachers in this environment. Parent involvement in the learning process is encouraged, both at home and at school.
The Lower School is a diverse learning community with 200 girls and boys from across Pierce, South King, Thurston, and Kitsap Counties. Nearly four in ten Lower Schoolers are students of color.
