What the Chaplain Does
DID YOU KNOW?
Over a five-year period, students’ SAT scores averaged 1,260 points compared to the national average
of 1,000 points.
Typically, 20 percent of a Charles Wright graduating class are National Merit Scholars or Commended Students.
Charles Wright offers more Advanced Placement courses --
the equivalent of college courses -- than any other high school in the South Puget Sound area.
Minority students account for 28 percent of the student body.
In the last decade, Charles Wright students consistently earned top honors among the State of Washington’s journalism students.
Charles Wright grants over $1.3 million in financial assistance to 21% of the student body.

The student stopped me in the hall in a bit of a panic. He had been assigned to take pictures of a sporting event for the student newspaper and was locked out of the room that contained the newspaper's digital camera. He asked if I could help him retrieve the camera, which I did without hesitating. I walked away from that encounter, which occurred early in my tenure at Charles Wright, struck at how in most any other environment I wouldn't have been so trusting with a person I hardly knew. Sure enough, the camera returned the next morning.
This brief vignette illustrates what is difficult to put into words: the feeling of the place we call Charles Wright Academy. We are a community built on trust and on high expectations of personal accountability. These attributes don't merely co-exist with an outstanding college-preparatory education; they are inextricably linked. Both are central to living up to the charge of our founders, Sam and Nathalie Brown: "Charles Wright Academy was founded to provide the children of this area with an education equal to that of the best schools in the country...."
Charles Wright is a community of participants. Over eighty percent of our students participate on interscholastic sports teams, and the same students who are active in athletics sing in the choir, perform on stage, staff our award-winning yearbook and newspaper, and join our perennial powerhouse Knowledge Bowl academic competition team. Opportunities abound for parents to volunteer, both on campus and off.
Our graduates go on to some of the best colleges and universities in the nation. Alumni regularly report how well prepared they were for college life, both academically and personally. Older alums talk about the profound difference Charles Wright made in their lives, and for many the friendships begun here on Chambers Creek Road have lasted a lifetime.
Charles Wright is a place where it is "cool" to work hard at excelling and where students actively engage in their academic studies. We are small enough to ensure a student with a personal or academic problem doesn't just "fall through the cracks."
Charles Wright Academy is not for everyone. We are geared for the student who wants to better him or herself and is willing to work hard to get there. Charles Wright students are respectful of the diversity of backgrounds and cultures represented here. Those who choose to take advantage of a Charles Wright education will be prepared for whatever future they can envision.
Whether you are a member of the current Charles Wright family looking to find information, a prospective student looking to see if Charles Wright is the place for you, or are a "net surfer" just passing by, you should find our web site full of a great deal of helpful information. We think we have captured a great deal of the flavor of Charles Wright in these pages.
