This will be an extraordinary new space and new opportunity for performance, teaching and discovery.
What is space to a teacher? An educational tool, just like a book or a computer or a science lab. Space is room to inspire, to discover, to learn.
And what is space to a performer? To quote a CWA teacher, space is “the medium for expression, the means of solving a problem, the laboratory for experiencing and experimenting.”
Together, we will build a facility with the structural and technological resources necessary to do great things. The new Language and Performing Arts Center will include: |
- A studio theater, with moveable stage and seating to allow for greatest flexibility and endless creative possibilities.
- More than twice the current seating capacity: 200-250 when used for performances (currently a maximum of 100); 400 when used as a gathering space (with no stage).
- A backstage area providing space for scene construction, and a green room doubling as a drama classroom.
- An instrumental music classroom.
- A choral music classroom.
- Offices for vocal, instrumental and drama teachers adjacent to their classrooms and in close proximity to one another.
- Music practice rooms for student practice, ensemble work, and private lessons.
- Scene and costume storage and actor dressing rooms.
- Eight full-size classrooms allowing for maximum functionality.
- Large office suite to accommodate language arts teachers (similar to the team teaching facilities found in the Middle School), allowing maximum collaboration within the departments.
- Appropriate infrastructure for technology resources.
