CWA and KBTC public television announce free workshop on kids' TV

posted 2.1.2013

Kids love television; and that’s alright, especially when the TV they watch is educational and age sensitive. Join KBTC public television and Charles Wright Academy for a special, one-hour workshop – Exploring Kids TV. The free workshop is open to all and will be held at Charles Wright on Thursday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m. The school’s campus is located at 7723 Chambers Creek Road West in Tacoma, Washington.

“KBTC is proud to offer children a safe, trusted environment to explore the world around them and develop a love of learning,” says Susan Barbeau, KBTC’s Community Engagement Associate, “We are committed to providing media that will help each child expand learning opportunities and achieve their fullest potential.”

What do pediatricians and researchers say about television’s influence on child development? How much television is too much? What really constitutes “educational TV”? These are the kinds of questions parents and caregivers often ask and are the focus of this important and useful workshop. The free, 60-minute workshop provides real life tools and tips that will help make each child’s media and life experiences safe and educational.

“We developed this workshop to help parents and caregivers discover how television is impacting children’s development and learn about the resources available to make any time, learning time,” said Barbeau, “We’re excited to partner with the Charles Wright Academy which is renowned for its educational commitment to children.”

A service of Bates Technical College, KBTC public television serves western Washington from its studios in Tacoma. We seek for clarity of all points of view, maintaining traditional journalistic integrity and thoughtful debate.
